BOOK REVIEW # 2017-013 - I LOVED YOU IN PARIS

What happens when a romance author who’s noted for writing stories set in the city of love itself, Paris; all of a sudden finds herself a character in a real life situation where her own loss of a marriage has taken place.  Naturally she’s as overwhelmed as any of her character could ever be when they wind up losing their HEA, and even more so.

We’ve all read stories which have been fraught with forbidden love, only to find there’s been quite a bit of infidelity lurking somewhere in the background which ultimately has led to demise of a what had been a wonderful relationship culminating in divorce. And we know the only thing the female protagonist can do is to hopefully find a new HEA to be part of her life once again.

Ms. Sobanet wastes no time in communicating this broad range of undeniable raw emotions as she exposes the truth regarding her own life, making  sure her readers get the impassioned journey she has experienced in her life, a roller coaster journey consisting of love, loss and ultimately a return to hope for a HEA.

But instead of having written this memoir using the typical prose format, the author has skillfully written a chronological progression of this traumatic period in her life through poetry. If done right, and the author has succeeded in doing just that; poetry can paint a vivid and emotional laden portrayal of an experience, in which the reader to left to do their own imagining of what has taken.

For having given her readers a unique reading experience about this devastating period of her life, how can I not give Ms. Sonabet’s endeavor here the 5 STARS in deserves.

ROBIN LEIGH MORGAN'S PROMOTIONAL/MARKETING IDEA # 16

This is a useful idea, but only if you’re fortunate to have the necessary funds to do advertisements on the internet. One place to go is FaceBook. Although they might be somewhat overpriced, they can be wonderfully aimed towards a specific age group or gender, they can be geographically target [like the main location for your book. such as the South], they can be targeted for individuals who share a particular interest such as liking to read Paranormal romances, etc.

FLASH FICTION #1 : ENVY

Quite a while back I was posting five sentence flash fiction stories which had been written in response to a prompt word on a now defunct website. I missed writing those stories as they’ve always helped me get through any episode of writer’s block I might have been suffering from. So here’s the first of what I hope to become a regular feature of my blog. As you can tell from this blog entry’s title today’s word is ENVY

THE MONSTER WITHIN

Edna is really a sweet person once you get to know her, but unfortunately is not the type of person you really want to be friends with.

Now don’t get me wrong, she’s a great individual who she does have one trait which can turn her deadly.

Vying to have anything her little heart desires as long as she doesn’t know you have it, everything’s okay.

Yet, the moment she finds out you do, you need to watch out.

You need to watch out because she turns into a green monster known as ENVY.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-012 - DIARY OF A CHRISTIAN WOMAN

There isn’t a woman who from time to time doesn’t want to return some spice to their relationship with their dear OH [other half] that they once had prior to and shortly after they’d said their I Dos.

But having a family and becoming more religious there’s a strong desire to keep everything clean and without even a glimmer of being perverted like it once might have been. Sex is in the minds of those participating in it and as the author uses her character, Phoebe to say, “I know God created sex for marriage. And not just for beautiful people, either. Sex is supposed to bind a man and wife; to give them an intimacy they share with no one else. Sex is supposed to be fulfilling. And fun! I think we’re supposed to want to have sex with our spouse.”

There needs to be a happy midpoint where one can go to fulfill our lustful desires, while being sexually anxious in terms of our actions in the eyes of our maker; remembering we’ve also got a standing to maintain to in the eyes of our children, and those in our community. But where are we to find such guidance. Phoebe finds her guidance in the form of a book we’ve all heard of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Even though this book is a work of fiction, it’s interesting to read how Phoebe goes about using this book in the relationship she shares with her husband George.

But given the author’s background as a pastor and working in the ministry for over thirty years, one has to wonder whether we can use the same ideas and techniques Phoebe had used on George, in our own real lives. We need to remember some of the best religious messages are sometimes best communicated through works of fiction, and a good example of this I believe would be Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

For having given her readers a clean romance novel with much to dwell upon in our own lives, I’m giving the author, Rebecca Reilly and this book 5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-011 - INTERLUDES: A COLLECTION OF EROTIC SHORT FICTION

I read this book via a KINDLE Unlimited download.

Merriam-Webster defines interlude as a usually short simple play or dramatic entertainment, and this is what Harmony Kent gives her readers here. Contained within these pages are ten erotic short stories each of which are sure to warm the cockles of your hearts on these cold wintry nights as well as days. And even if it’s not winter the same emotion can also be easily felt.

If you’ve read as many romance novels as I have and then have written a review for them during the past 2 ½ years then you’re realized there’s practically no genre of romance, aside those which are Young Adult, Inspirational, Christian and the like, which can’t be transformed into one can be looked at as being erotic.

Ms. Kent in the stories she’s written for this anthology, from the typical contemporary most romance readers love to read, to those of a more specific genre like historical or even sci-fi, to sure delight a wide audience of readers. And even though you might have never read something in a specific genre like historical, you might now want to read more of. Regardless of the specific genre for each of these stories, the characters are quite realistic as in real life, and the level of the sex is quite vivid with a variety of the level of heat involved.

These stories are a quick read which are easily while you have a quick breakfast and your favorite mug of Joe. These stories are not meant to be read once and placed away somewhere on your KINDLE, they’re meant to be read anytime time you’re in need to have an erotic fantasy on your mind instead of the mundane daily routine. It is for this reason, I’ve given Ms. Kent 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-010 - BETWEEN THE BOYS

I won a mobi.file of this book from the author through a giveaway she had on LibraryThing.com and the following is my honest opinion.

Imagine if you’re Paige Kessel, a young nine-year girl who has two younger sisters, when all of a sudden your father ups and dies from MS.

Your whole life is torn upside down; you’re forced to leave all of the friends you’ve known years and everyone has to move with your mother to live with your grandmother to a small, out of the way town known as Basin Lake.

The hardest thing that you have facing you is starting to make friends at your new school. Remembering how it had been the first time you fret it will happen again. But luckily you meet two cute looking boys your age,

Evan Mattson and Garrett Hevener. They what it’s like being at a new school and vow you’ll feel like you’re back home again becoming and staying friends with them.

Jumping ahead until Paige’s senior year in high school, we find the three are still the best of friends, perhaps even more so, with their final school year coming to an end. The thing is that when she first arrived at school and had entered Evan’s life, he took an immediate liking to her which has continuing increased until now. While his young love to Paige has for all practical purposes been there; Garrett, now the high-school football star player, has mature and is now interested in her as well.  This forces Evan to make a vital decision in his life, does he tell Paige about the secrets he’s hidden from her regarding his life in order to keep her in his; because if he does it might take the delicate relationship they now share and rip it asunder or possibly save if for a HEA.

It is now Paige who’s force to make the most decision so far in her young life. Does she go with the guy she loves a friend or the one she can’t live without? This is a tough decision even for a grown woman to make, let alone a young girl like Paige.

While the story is told from the POV of Paige and Evan, I would have love to have at least an occasional one from Garret, I still loved how deeply this coming of age has gone, even going as far as including a handful of bring sex scenes without the inclusion of any smut. It is for this reason, I’m happy to give Ms. Vercier 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-009 - RED HOTS: A VALENTINE ANTHOLOGY

The countdown has begun for the most important day for romance in any woman’s life. Are you ready for it?

If you are or if you’re not what better way can there be other than fantasizing about being in the shoes of the female protagonists in each of these 18 steamy, hot marvelous short stories covering a wide variety of genres. These stories are wonderful being read when you’re finally alone after having getting the kids off to school and your dear other half off to work. Just imagine yourself grabbing a mug of your favorite cup of Joe, and relax with your feet up in that comfortable recliner in the den or living room, listening to some romantic sweet music as you read one of these stories.

Anthologies are a wonderful way to enjoy a new story written by an author you’ve come to love, and new authors you haven’t discovered yet.

For having each of the authors helping us get ready for Valentine’s Day with their own unique style of writing how can I not give this collection 5 STARS.

Besides given the price of the KINDLE Edition [when it’s released on February 1, 2017] how can you go wrong. If you can’t wait the paperback edition is available now.

I had requested and have received an ARC mobi.file of this book and the above has been my honest opinion.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-008 - MENDING A HEART

I read this book via a KINDLE Unlimited download.

Like the author I’ve been through having open heart surgery myself, and wound up having the works: I had a quadruple bypass, value replacement and a maze to help control an irregular heart rate. But unlike the author I felt relatively fine with no visible sign of an inability to function without any problems.

Luckily I was saved by the paramedics, got taken to the hospital where I awoke ten days later with tubes connected to all three of my orifices, which I’m not going to mention individually as I know you can imagine where they were.

Of course I wasn’t allowed to get out of bed while I was in the CCU [Coronary/Cardiac Care Unit] for about ten days. I then got transferred to another hospital for my by-pass surgery. My entire time there, and even after my surgery, no one came to take me out of bed so I could stretch my legs and walk; so you can imagine what happen three days before I would be sent for REHAB, they got someone to take me out of my bed so I could finally work, my legs felt like they were a wet noodle for I couldn’t even stay on my own two feet.

After almost four weeks I finally got to go home and if it wasn’t for my dear OH staying by me I don’t know what I would have done. If there’s one person who can understand the experience what the author has gone through it would have to be me. This is a life changing experiencing which forces one to appreciate life itself, the good and the bad. So for having given her readers a poignant memoir I’m giving Ms. Miclea 5 STARS.

STATUS REPORT # 96

Well the New Year has begun and I’m looking forward to making it my best year since I decided to become an author.

Unfortunately, my year has already experienced its first downer; yesterday I got notified I hadn’t become a finalist in the second RWA Chapter writing contest I’d entered, but it also had a silver lining. One of the three judges gave me a few ideas to help change what I gave them which will hopefully allow me to improve the entire story for my erotic endeavor.

So far I’ve done two entries of three Haikus written around a prompt word, and have returned to giving you, my readers, a promotional or marketing idea for your writing endeavors.

I would love to add interviews and guest blog posts to this blog, but I can’t do it unless I receive requests for the same. If anyone is interested please email at rlmorgan51@yahoo.com and enter REQUEST FOR ________ in the subject line. I’ll be doing this on a first come, first served basis.

As far as my three writing endeavors are concerned, I’ll be starting with my first erotic novella entitled “The Transformation”; which I’d love to complete by the middle of March. I might consider posting a few unedited snippets of these endeavors from time to time.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-007 - ANGEL FOR CHRISTMAS

When a happy-go-lucky billionaire gets involved in a deadly crash in his outrageously expensive sports car while trying to avoid hitting a deer, he winds up meeting archangels Michael and Gabriel at the angels of heaven. But there’s a problem in making a decision as to where he should, will it be through the gates or will it be down below. While they knew he has written countless checks to assist those in need, he had NEVER GOT personally involving in helping anyone directly; it had always been seated at his office, and this caused him to lack any sort of true compassion towards a single individual.

This resulted in their giving him a chance to change his former ways, and all he has to do is to save an orphanage from foreclosure and for them to save the resources to pay the mortgage and place it on a sound situation going forwards. But the irony is, he has to do it as the orphanage’s new janitor, Jacob Porter, and the only thing he has available to really his wits and everything he knew before he died, as no one will recognize him from his previous billionaire existence.

The person he’s supposed to assist is the granddaughter of the home’s founder, Suzi Stephens, who’s at her wits end about their annual fundraising gala not raising enough funds to pay the balloon mortgage note and the home’s operating expenses. She’s in this fix because her father squandered the school’s funding on bad investments rather than keep everything where it had been previously.

While Suzi’s is suspicious of Jacob’s outward personae, she permits him to help in the fundraising activities. However in the month he has to complete his task and return to heaven and meet his fate, which happens to be on Christmas Eve, will he succeed. He never expected to finally fall in love with a woman enough to really care for her, but unfortunately he know his time left on Earth is swiftly coming to an end and that he won’t be around for his relationship with Suzi to become something lasting.

While his success in completing his task might be a foregone conclusion, what about Suzi and his relationship with her; will it end at midnight or will there be some sort of miraculous HEA for them to experience? I’m not saying, you’ll have to read this tender and possibly tear jerking endeavor by Ms. Clemmons to find out, and which is why I’ve given it 5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-006 - CHRISTMAS MIRACLES

I’ve read this marvelous anthology of Christmas themed mail order bride anthology written by four of Amazon’s bestselling authors via a KINDLE Unlimited download.

In reading mail order bride stories, like the ones contained in this mega collection, you have to remember that while they’re usually classified as sub-genres such as religious/ inspirational, Christian, western/frontier romances, that there’s quite a lot of history involved underlining the story lines. With history being my A+ subject in high school I know that the reason for the existence is not only that some women, especially in the East, wanted some adventure in their lives or who refused to marry for family instead of for love; and that those women in the South just want someone to marry since the Civil War had decimated the male population. I also know that on the male side of this there was the attraction of the Gold Rush, and male-centered jobs such as farming, ranching and logging who left their wives or wanted to wait until they had become successful enough to start a family, which lead to an extreme shortage of women and the creation of the mail order bride phenomenon.

This being said, I enjoyed reading each of the Christmas themed stories in this collection in which both the female and male protagonist’s lives got made better. It’s kind of sweet reading stories in which sex is not the main interest or driving force of the characters involved or that of the story itself. The stories do involve conflict, but only when it is essential to the story and character development. While a purist would say there are historical errors in some of these stories, I believe they should be disregarded and looked at as being needed in communicating something to anyone who reads the story which would to their visualization of what they’re reading.

For having given me and other readers of this collection of mail order bride stories, a sweet and wholesome reading experience of miracles involving  romance at Christmas; which be read at any time, keeping the spirit of the season alive,  I’m happy to give each of the four authors and each of the five stories they’ve contributed, 5 STARS

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-005 - STOCKING STUFFERS: A CHRISTMAS EROTICA ANTHOLOGY

Having read several romance anthologies, and novel; many of them being ones which were hot and steamy with sexy hunks male characters with a Christmas theme to them, I thought I had my fill for a good while. Fortunately I’ve been proven to be wrong for when I saw this collection of 13 hot steamy short stories I couldn’t resist purchasing it.

This collection contains stories from some of the best erotic authors you might have read already as well as some new ones you might want to read more of.  There’s nothing like reading a good steamy erotic story on a cold day to get the blood coursing through your veins and making you feel warm from the inside, especially if you’re alone and speaking aloud the emotions you’re feeling fantasizing being in the shoes of the female protagonists in each of the stories. And if you happen to be in a naughty mood as you read a story, so much the better.

For making their readers feel naughty, naughty enough with their thoughts as they read these stories that Santa will place them on this list for next Christmas now, that I’ll be nice and give this anthology and each of its authors, 5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-004 - JEMMA 1 - ENTERTAINMENT WITH JEMMA - BOOK 1

Anyone who is a blogger, especially if you’re getting paid for each hit, and even if you’re not you might be able to relate to the situation Jemma Larson is facing in her life.

Picture if you will, your parents have been killed in a car accident, and you’re now the head of the household responsible for paying the bills, providing the daily necessities for not only yourself, but for your baby brother.  And if you’re familiar with how fast a Social Services Agency will come in and break up a family when the youngest members of a family are not being taken care in the manner they deemed to be appropriate, then you’ll understand the dire situation Jemma Larson is beginning to face.

Jemma is no stranger in facing difficult times, especially financial ones, but with an ever increasing competition in the blogging world, she needs to come up with a viable idea which is sure to produce a phenomenal blog post, which will capture the attention of thousands of readers and be the envy of every other blogger.

But in order to accomplish this some sort of miracle to occur. It is then that fate steps in and gives her the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with none other than Daniel Starke, the newest infatuation of women on reality TV. However, according to everything she’s heard about this guy makes him out to no more than an egotistic, philandering idiot. Getting this interview would definitely mean a tremendous increase in her readers and the much needed income which would come along with it.

But as she quickly finds out, everything she’s heard has actually been lies and allegations caused by the proverbial gossip mills. Daniel, Jemma she discovers is a totally sweet and adorable hunk and sparks begin ignite in a relationship which pushes her into the forefront and forces her to discard the shyness she possessed up to now, while at the same time learning about the true world of entertainment.

While this might seem wonderful for Jemma, there an imposing negative side to the blogging world that she now faces, one which is fraught of jealousy of another blogger that can only be resolved with a confrontation.

This is one heck of a way to begin a series, and for enticing her readers in this manner, I’ve given Ms. Carlyle 5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-003 - EMBRACE THE DAWNING

What would you do if for some reason you’ve always felt different than everyone around you? You’ve always had greater endurance when it came to running than any other student at your school. You were stronger than many of the boys even though you’ve never lifted any weights. And if you ever got injured you were back to normal, all healed, faster than anyone else. One thing you knew was certain, you weren’t a Supergirl; strange visitor from outer space with powers far greater than anyone else. So then, what has been the reason for Kayci Pierce being this way is something which has perplexed her for as long as she can remember.

It wasn’t until one uneventful night while she was taking a walk in the woods when Kayci got attacked and bitten by some creature and had gotten save by a total stranger.  Little did Kayci realize that the dreams she’s continuously have since that traumatic and her rescuer would eventually not only lead her to answering the mystery of being the way she is, it would also bring her to her destiny of being a half-breed, yet powerful vampire sorceress.

But there’s a secret war going on involving rogue vampires and the Convenant, a war in which her savior, Adrian Spade, is heavily involved with pursuing these rogue vampires.

The attraction between these two protagonist is quite powerful, as she is now involved in a romantic relationship with a pure blood vampire. And as she now needs to assist Adrian to endure any and all immediate threats to their existence, Kayci must now make a possible life alternating decision, does she return to the life she’s been familiar with all of her life, or goes she forgo that and embrace the birthright she’s entitled to have.

For having given her readers a page turning vampire romance novel, there’s no way I can’t resist giving Ms. Shreffler 5 STARS.

ROBIN LEIGH MORGAN'S MARKETING/PROMOTIONAL IDEA #15

Go to your local bookstore and offer to do a book signing event. Advice the owner that you’ll bring the copies of the books and that he doesn’t have to buy any prior to the event.

Work out a reasonable financial arrangement where you make a fair profit [remember you’ve bought copies of your at a greatly reduced price].

Remember to get their sales tax ID # as you need to report all income from the sales of your books on your tax return each year, including the sales tax you’re supposed to collect on each book sold. You don’t charge sales tax to books sold to retailer, point of final sale; which gets listed on the non-taxable sales when you pay the sales tax you’ve collected for the books you sole. Of course you’ll need to give the bookstore owner your tax id as well, but check with your local tax department to find out the official rules.

[see marketing idea #3 for more information on this topic]

At the end of the event ask the owner if they’d like to buy a few extra signed copies to keep on hand.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-002 - THE PRINCESS WHO WANTED A FRIEND

Dr. Orly has done it again, this time she’s teaching her young readers the true meaning of friendship. And she’s in attempting to accomplish this goal she doesn’t hit her young readers over the head with this lesson nor does she talk down to them either; instead she does it in a wonderful subliminal manner, which they can immediately grasp and understand.

While the princess might have selected the ears, mouth, hands and heart when she asked all the candidates vying to become her friend which is the best part of a person’s body, she already knew what the only answer could possibly be. The princess knew that for a true friendship to exist it can’t be based on a specific aspect [part] of another person it has to be based on their total personae. In the end only one individual, around her age, had been able to give her the answer she was looking for.

When you have a book written in rhyme, it aids in grabbing and keeping her reader’s attention for the book, from the beginning to the end. If you have any doubts regarding this, just think of the Dr. Seuss you read as a child, I know I have. The illustrations in this book are complementing the text quite well.

For helping her readers understand the meaning of friendship I happy to give Ms. Katz 5 STARS for her endeavor here.

BOOK REVIEW # 2017-001 - SWEET COMPANY

After having posted my five previous reviews of which three had been for anthologies containing a total of 31 hot steamy erotic stories with a hot alpha or shapeshifting male hunk I felt I needed something at the other extreme of the romance genre, I needed a sweet, inspiration romance with no obvious sexual scene when I found this one in one of my emails.

I enjoyed stepping into Jessica’s shoes being able to finally getting from the abusive relationship she’d been in with a cad by the name of Calvin, a relationship where he was forever bad-mouthing her entire family. But the trip back home to Bethany had a melancholy reason attached to it, her aunt [the author had unfortunately called Sylvia her great-aunt, a factual error which is hard to overlook had died.

But unbeknownst to Jessica until the hearing of her aunt’s will, she’s now in possession of Sylvia’s Sticky Buns bakery, an apartment next door, and a bank account contain half-a-million dollars. As a child Jessica spent countless hours with her aunt in the bakery and it had become a hobby which she hasn’t done anything with in years; and even though she still loves to bake, owning the bakery is something she hadn’t planned on doing when she came back to Bethany.

Another thing Jessica hadn’t planned finding a guy who she can once again have a special feeling for, Luke. Luke is one of the bakery’s employees, and he has a younger cousin, Bradley, who is currently mute due to a tragic accident; this cousin loves the bakery as does the town and they fear losing it if she decides to sell it.

Jessica feels the pressure this is imposing on her, and the fact that Luke enters the bakery in the town’s annual bake off without her knowledge and she winds up winning. What complicates matters is that she has received a wonderful offer from a large bakery chain for the bakery.

What is Jessica to do? Does she take the money and run? Does she stay around to keep her aunt’s bakery going as well as possibly finding a real true love with Luke which might end in a HEA?

Forgiving the factual error regarding Sylvia’s relationship to Jessica, I’m happy to give Ms. Kinsley 5 STARS for having given her readers a tender sweet romance which might even bring a tear to one’s eyes.
